This garden favourite bulb has characteristics of both the genus Iris and Moraea. The distribution range is from the Southern Cape coast upwards through the Eastern Cape and into Kwazulu-Natal. The flowering time is July and August and the plants can be grown in full sun or partial shade. Propagation is by rhizomes or seed.
